Level Five Lit was founded by Libby Baker & Abigail Raeke. We're developmental editors with 50 years combined experience. Our mission is to teach narrative craft and holistic structure that support unique stories and voices.
We address common patterns that prevent writers from reaching their publishing goals:
- Good narrative concepts, poorly applied
This is often the result of writers learning their craft piecemeal, which can happen for graduates of MFA writing programs as well as writers developing their own curriculum of courses, craft resources, and writing exchanges.
For novels and memoirs, writers need a comprehensive overview of how craft elements work together to create an experience for the reader.
- Writers *stuck* in a certain phase
Successful books are crafted through work in several distinct phases. Each author has their own process, so the phases (with accompanying skill sets and craft elements) blend together in traditional courses.
For teaching purposes, we break the process down into five phases*. Writers often skip one or more phases without realizing it.
